Avoid at all cost!

Initially, we had thought that we had chosen a great company with friendly people who cared. However, once we had signed things got a lot worse very quickly. Fundamentally, the packers are paid to stuff as much as possible into boxes as quickly as they can. If they have to destroy stuff to make it fit, so be it. Whatever has only emotional value, they are happy to destroy: rip apart delicate stuff or scribble with permanent marker on wooden furniture (!) and plastic containers because they know that the insurance company will not pay for emotional value and they are too lazy to write their numbers onto something where it causes no damage. In addition, they do not have to unpack - it is a totally different crew at the other end who will always claim that it was not their fault. Lots of things got broken on the way, even solid mirror wardrobe doors, side panels of bookshelves and wardrobes etc. On top, when we were in the middle of the loading, their operations called and said that the volume was 20% higher than they had estimated (they sent around their best estimator for the quote) and that we had to pay immediately (obviously at that point you have no choice but to pay up). Because every packer works on his own room, they had no idea who did some excellent packing (which we had, too!) and who did the shoddy job. They have zero oversight or quality control of the packers. Their incentives just are not aligned with the customer's interest, but only their own. Another example: The inventory list was totally useless, not just because you couldn't read their handwriting, but also because on 80 items they used the same words ("unit parts") independently whether it is bookshelves, wardrobes or any other furniture. The people who label the boxes are not the ones who packed it a day earlier! When you try to re-assemble e.g. wardrobes or bookshelves, cabinets, desks or tables, you have no idea what belongs together because they pack what is convenient for them, not what for you as the customer. Paying them for re-assembly makes just no sense. They also wrap everything with their tape even on things where the tape destroys the surface (e.g. on outside furniture cover which was waterproof before the stuck their tape on it). Again, they just don't care because they are paid to pack and somebody else will unpack, not them. They do not even use blankets or cling film to protect your stuff, just paper sheets and boxes.

In summary: they increase the price when you have no option but to pay up and will cause lots of damage. Don't be fooled by their friendliness at the beginning. You have been warned of what is to come. To be avoided at all cost! Even one start is one too many.

Simpsons Removals.

DO NOT USE! Our mentions of the importance of pick-up and delivery dates were disregarded. Pick-up had to be delayed, due to late packaging materials. Delivery was DELAYED by a whole MONTH! No effort was made to compensate for us being without our stuff for a whole month. We were treated rudely from the head office, no efforts to appease us were made. On arrival we received broken goods and unsurprisingly - no compensation. For that price and if your stuff and dates are important to you - use somewhere else!

We are sorry you are displeased with the service you've received from our company. With regards to the delay in pick up date, this was a matter discussed between both parties and was resolved in order to allow you enough time to pack your effects ptior to our team arriving.
At the time of booking we provided you with a provisional delivery date on our part load service. Unfortunately, unforseen circumstances beyond our control did result in the delivery date being cancelled.
With regards to the damaged effects, we are very sorry to hear this, but I can find no record of any correespondence from you to us advising of this.

Great serice.

Very happy with service from start to finish as we found everything was on time and in one piece the driver was polite and very helpful and put everything back together I found the whole process from start to finish stress free and easy to manage I would have no problem recommending simpsons removals and would defiantly use them again although we won't be moving again for some time.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your review, I will pass on your kind words to the staff and crew involved in your removal.

The worst removal company in the world !!

They are the worse removal company in the world.
They failed to collect a large proportion of my items from Spain having subcontracted out the job. The items were left on the steps to my house to be stolen.I in the end had to organise some men to collect them as they were incapable of sorting out another removal truck to help me. I sorted it from the UK !. They were very difficult about the delivery and kept changing the date. Telling my furniture was still in Spain. The rudest logistics woman I have even spoken to literally said" tough". I had many broken and badly packed items I.e My expensive French basin. Not bubble wrapped just a bit of tape. They are claiming I did not pay for the insurance when I specifcally did. Simpsons don't return my calls and basically don't care about their customers. NEVER EVER USE THEM. I am in shock at how dreadful they are. The story of hell is far longer but I think I have made my point. I felt severely ripped off and very Badly treated.

Official company response

We are sorry you’ve felt it necessary to post a review like this, however, our reply follows:-

Our quotation and our invoice both clearly state that insurance for your goods is excluded, but that cover can be arranged at additional cost on receipt of a completed insurance proposal document. The quotation shows what the costs for insurance cover would be and the booking confirmation includes an insurance proposal for clients to complete, without
which, insurance cannot be put in place. Insurance is always invoiced separately to removal costs once the proposal form has been returned to us, so It is impossible to understand how anyone can claim they have paid for insurance when they haven't completed an insurance proposal and they haven't been invoiced for it. We quoted to provide a packing service limited to a specific number of boxes at your request, however, this did not extend to
furniture items which are blanket wrapped when stowed on the vehicle as is standard practice for removals to and from European destinations. You haven't mentioned that we collected 530cft as opposed to the 300cft estimated from the information provided to our sales team, nor that there were 160 steps up to the property in Spain, or that as a gesture of goodwill we credited the costs for the additional carry up and down the steps which were beyond the 30m standard limit included in the quotation. Our standard terms and conditions, approved by Trading Standards, do specify that we may sub-contract where we are unable to meet collection/delivery dates in accordance with a client's requirements. Our
records show that your calls and emails were always answered promptly and that at no time did any member of our staff indicate or imply that it was 'tough' as you say. We strive to ensure we cover all aspects of a clients move to make the whole process as seamless as possible. It is for this reason our booking staff always ask detailed questions about access at collection and delivery because, what we can't do, is to factor in variables that we are unaware of which could impact on the smooth operation of the removals process.
Having said all of that, we do wish you well in your new home in London.

Lying company.

DO NOT USE SIMPSONS we moved to Turkey 2 months ago and are still waiting for our furniture only to be told today that it will be even longer coming.  After they picked it up from the UK they held it for 1 month before it was shipped and never told us but when we booked with them we were told definatly we would have our furniture when we arrived in Turkey.  They do not answer emails and not return calls.  I spoke to 1 employee 1 week before we left for Turkey who was down right rude and left me in floods of tears he said it was my problem not his not one of them has sympathised about how they have left us with no furniture for 2 months we sit on the floor we sleep on the floor.  We are distraut DO NOT USE THEM.

Sorry to hear you had a bad expeirence, I belive the option of a sole use container was offered to you for a direct transit but you had opted for our shared service which unfortunatley dosen't come with date timelines for shipment, that's how such an economical price is given to our clients for this service.

Quote was wrong.

I thought how professional the person who quoted for my move was. They were cheaper that their rivals. However on the day I rang to confirm booking and just two weeks prior to move date (because of a delay in exchange) I was told that the quote was wrong and they added £300 to my bill. Not happy but I could not back out at that stage as it was too close to the completion date. Very much not happy at all. The guys who actually did the move were fantastic and I would recommend the individuals.

Good morning Mr Lambert,

Took much of the stress out of moving.

We received a competitive quote from Simpsons for packing and moving to our new (local) home.
The two packers, Chris and Webster, worked really hard on the day before the move and were very professional.
On the move day the team of 4 again worked to ensure we got in and that the furniture and boxes were in the right rooms.
The excellent packing ensured that our fragile items were undamaged.
I would recommend them.

Many thanks for your kind review David. Your coments have been passed on to Chris and Webster and the other members of the crew.

Simpsons Removals!!

This seem to be their norm these days. I shipped my cargo from UK to Johannesburg, South Africa. It took them a rather long period to get the cargo to South Africa. When it finally got there, they subcontracted to a company called Advance Transport in Cape Town who claimed to have handed my cargo to H&M Removals. I asked them for the Way Bill and they did not seem to know what this is. For a professional company, I wonder how they are still in business. For a while, neither Advance Transport nor H&M Removals could locate my cargo! I had to call all three companies severally before they could finally locate my cargo. When the cargo arrived Johannesburg, H&M Removals would not deliver to my address because they were on "skeleton staff"! I had to hire a truck to pick up my items myself! and lo and behold, as expected, one of my items was stolen!  This is what I found about Advance Transport on the net http://hellopeter.com/advance-transport/complaints/advance-transport-couldnt-be-less-interested-1149753. This is exactly the same attitude I received from them. Old habits die hard they say! My recommendation? I would shop around for companies that actually care about you and who understand what it means to move from one country to another. As if it is not stressful enough, some think they can do what ever suits them and the customer can do nothing. Well, I have news for you! Times have changed and the social media has given us the power we need to bring companies like yours to your senses!  .

Exceptional Service.

Due to an unplanned delay in my buyer transferring his funds to my solicitor, we had an extremely stressful move day. The guys at Simpson's kept us sane and entertained us throughout the experience; also helping us through the legal process and dealing with our buyer. We completed five minutes prior to our solicitor going home for the evening. They come highly recommended and we will certainly recommend them to family and friends for moves both in the UK and further afield.

Do NOT use Simpsons Removals.

Simpsons moved my house contents from Doncaster to France. They were not cheap and nor was the insurance policy they pushed on to me. I am 72 and had to move to slightly warmer climes for health reasons. The delivery was 2 weeks late and when the stuff was delivered and the Simpsons movers were leaving they stuck under my nose a completed form for me to sign. I wrote "unchecked" on the form because they gave me no time to check the items. They didn't check either and were desperate to leave. I was forced to sleep on the floor while I awaited delivery. When I unpacked I discovered several lost items so I made a claim. Simpsons denied they'd lost anything because I signed the form saying the delivery had taken place (2 large men stood over me while they shoved the form on to me). I then made a claim under the insurance that Simpsons broked on behalf of RSA. RSA won't pay because Simpsons say all the items arrived. I lost cutlery, a suitcase of clothes (France is cold in winter), a TV remote control (so the TV is unusable) and several other items. I live on a state pension and other small savings. Simpsons have exploited an elderly client and won't take responsibility for their negligence. Totally disgraceful. Do not use them. Many other testimonials tell other horror stories.

Service cost: £1300

Official company response

Dear Danielle. I would like to apologise that you feel our level of service was not up to our normal standard on your relocation to France. The service we provided was based on a part load service and I can see it did take longer than we would normally expect, so I'm sorry this happened. The transit times are a guide and the majority of the time these are met. As for the insurance I cannot comment on that, but will look into this for you.
Kind regards,.

Nightmare removal.

I would never, ever, ever recommend anyone to use Simpsons Removal firm, unless you want your carpets trashed, your furniture broken and be prepared for additional costs for boxes plus cost for delivery of boxes. It was raining on moving day and No dust sheets, or shoe covers and no mattress covers used, I found my white mattresses on the dirty van floor !!
There was no apology. I am quite shocked as the surveyor who came to the house was polite and promised sheets, covers and boxes etc.

From Dartford to Sleaford.

Most of the promises made by Barry were kept. However we did not feel that they always shared information with one another. We did feel pressured into confirming our date, within 1hour of doing so our solicitor confirmed it needed to be changed, losing us £286 insurance. The actual move went well and the teams headed by Paul were efficient. We did have a couple of breakages, but as we packed ourselves we cannot blame the removals.

Fast, Efficient, Friendly.

The 3 guys allocated turned up exactly as stated, keen to get going. They worked incredibly fast and nothing was too much trouble for them. Before we knew it the lorry was almost full and the house practically empty. There were a number of odd shaped/sized items that probably could have been squeezed on but the guys didn't want to risk it, so ordered another small van to site. Great service all around from Gary, Roy and Alfie even when it started pouring down when unloading, they worked their socks off to get everything off of the lorry and into the new house asap. Thanks to everyone at Simpsons, we highly recommend these guys!

All went to plan.

Simpsons turned up promptly and had everything moving like clockwork after a short tour of the house. Within 2 hours the house was clear with minimal damage - most possibly caused by my poor packing. The lorry turned up at our new house within the hour and once again had all contents unloaded into the allocated rooms within a further 2 hours - it was sometimes difficult to keep up with the staff's speed as to where certain items should be placed as some of my location stickers had fallen off during the process. I would highly recommend Simpsons and consider the cost to be great value for money. We will be moving out again within the year and will definitely use Simpsons again.

Read the Bit in the Contract about THIRD PARTIES.

Once the international third party sole trader which Simpsons-UK had given our money to in order to handle delivery and 'destination services' disappeared, Peter Simpson was quick to remind us of the clause in the contract we signed with them that the customer has to pay any costs arising from such circumstances. From then on we were at the mercy of these third parties with virtually no support from Simpsons-UK except long and patronizing emails from Turner demanding us to 'just pay them'. Late delivery, poor communication, loss of money, rude suppliers - it was a horrible experience. If you pay Simpsons-UK to move your possessions internationally you will pay for their poor choice of global agents, which they will not even contract, just prepay with your money. Why use Simpsons-UK at all? Just go and research local contractors in the country you are moving to. Simpsons-UK made our move an awful experience and their replies to others in this list demonstrate their arrogant approach to customer service.

Service cost: £3000

Official company response

Dear Thomas, In reference to your review posted. I wish to apologise for the inconveinence and extra costs you incurred with your relocation. I hope you are fully settled and enjoying your new life in Australia. The reason for the costs was something totally out of our control with the Australian company going bust.

Very dissapointing.

The initial contact with Simpons was quite impressive. A good surveyor and prompt response from the office. They seemed to be very professional. However on moving day they sent one packer (a casual worker) who said 'they didn't realise it was a full-pack at the office.' They managed to get some more people in later in the day but they were running so far behind that we had to leave some things behind. Fortunately our son and his family were moving into the house a few weeks later so there was time to sort it out.
When they arrived at our new home it was raining and they put no cover down on the carpets (which were very light and had just been cleaned).
If you are considering this company - think again!

Poor Delivery Men & Customer Service.

Never, I repeat NEVER use Simpsons removals.  They refused to unpack any of my furniture apart from 2 beds (which they whinged constantly about) I only found out that it did not include flatpacks on arrival (and everything had been flatpacked) but even the items that hadn't they refused to unpack.  They left me their own rubbish to clear aswell as the debris they were contrated to remove. The delivery men were also intimidating, lazy and rude. On complaining I have basically been tough and I'm lying! Now I wonder where those delivery men get their manners from.. Absolutely appalling company. .

Moving locally and storage facilities.

I had a fridge and washing machine in storage with Simpsons for 2 years and they stored both items with the doors shut rendering both items useless. They then refused to replace them by saying that it is there policy to store these items with the doors shut and it was my fault for not drying them out properly. They also damaged quite a few items and at one time refused to believe that I had a complaint although I had asked for and filled in a claim form. In my opinion they are not professional and there staff do not seem to care about your personal property. The speed there drivers drive those vans its surprising that they do not damage more items because I have seen them go past me like the wind. They do not take care with your items and when asked to put items in the garage they just dump it without any thought. It took me 9 months of fighting to get any sort of compensation and that still did not cover the cost of the fridge and washing machine. They seemed to rely on playing the long wait expecting the person with the complaint to give up as they loose the will to fight. In my opinion stay clear. .

Avoid at all costs for international shipping.

I paid Simpsons to ship goods as part of a consolidated container on the 29th of September 2012 to the US East Coast.  At the time of booking, I was assured that while they could not give me definite delivery times, it was normally between 8 - 10 weeks with a maximum of 12 weeks. On that basis I booked with them. I finally received my goods about 24 weeks after I gave it to them - on March 17 2013. Their customer service is very poor - when I asked when I would get my goods, their only response was that in their terms and conditions, they do not guarantee delivery. They then asked me to pay an additional £1,200 if I wanted my goods delivered on time. Alternatively, they  told me to come to their warehouse and take my goods and that they will then charge me for storage!! Without doubt, the worst consumer experience of my life.    .

Service cost: £2000

Official company response

I believe your comments are misplaced and disingenuous given the circumstances of your shipment to the US.
You were asked to collect the shipment from our store only as a result of your rude comments and unreasonable behaviour towards members of our staff following which we cancelled your contract with Simpsons. You later provided us with an unreserved apology and an assurance there would be no repeat of the abuse and, on that basis, we reluctantly agreed to re-instate the contract for you. We also provided you, in writing, with full details of the timescales that might be experienced with our part load service which you agreed.
We did not ask you to pay an additional £1200 for delivery on time, we simply offered you the option of a scheduled service at an additional cost if timing was an issue, but you elected to continue with the part load service.
It is unfortunate the estimated transit times were exceeded on this occasion but our part load service offers no absolute guarantee on timescales.

Why didn't I read these reviews before I booked Simpsons?!

I wish I’d seen this site before booking Simpsons for my move, I wish I’d thought to look for a review site. I can only agree with what has already been said. Worst moving experience ever. Bought the packing service and was left without phone, internet, microwave and very nearly kettle for 3 days, on the move day they tried to leave before my things were out of the house and then broke my sofa, kitchen table and about 14 other (smaller) things. Total carnage and a complaint isn’t worth the effort (although I have tried). .

Service cost: £1272

Official company response

We are more than a little surprised you have seen fit to submit such a disingenuous review of the service you received from us.
As you are aware, your sofa is not broken, the kitchen table is not broken (it is an old table and the joint holding the castor in place has worn), your bed was adjusted as requested and your fridge freezer was seen working and the loose door handle has been tightened for you. When our operations manager visited your home to remedy the issues you raised your husband agreed that these had been carried out satisfactorily.
You have not to date submitted a claim for damaged items as you have elected to make a formal complaint to the BAR and hold the claim in abeyance until they have reviewed your complaint.
We always do everything we can to meet our customer's specific requirements throughout the removal process but it is all too easy these days to give the impression a terrible service has been provided when this is simply not the case.

Simpsons Removals Were Great !!

We moved to Perth and took half a 20 foot container, the Simpsons saleman come out to our house and we showed him what we wanted to move, we was sent an email quote within two days of them coming out to us. We got other quote and some were cheaper than Simpsons but we had a good feeling about them, when the time came to book the moving day they were very helpful and gave us lots of great information on how to complete the forms. The big day can and the three staff done a great job of packing the goods and loaded it into there vehicle, we did get a call from Simpsons and they told us we had gone over the amount they had quoted for and wanted anothe £275, to be fair I did take some extra items that we did not show the salesman so it was only fair to pay them for the extra work and the extra space in the container. Over all it was a great move and not on thing got broken so hats of to the Simpsons packers and the office staff that held our hand every stepof the way.

Uk to Canada.

I was very disppointed with Simpsons removals. We booked them, used a shared container. I was told it would take a maximumnof 10-12 weeks for delivery. No where was I told at all it would take longer for any reason. This was the main reason I booked and used them because of the time frame. We moved from the uk to Canada. It is stressful moving at the best of times. I emailed regular and contacted them via email a lot, I never got a reply. I then emailed upper management and got a short and abrupt email back Telling me it was in consoldoation amd I would be informed once it is on the ship. I was told in the email that there wasn't a time frame (even though I had NEVER got told it would take that long I was told 10-12 weeks!) I gave up emailing/contacting them as I never got a response. I found it horrendous! We finally got our items 8 months later. Absolutely disgraceful.. On the positive once our goods arrived in Canada I cannot fault the company used here (not simpsons!) they were fantastic, emailed regularly with updates. .

Service cost: £950

Official company response

We are sorry you are displeased with the service you’ve received from us.
The timeframes we advise to clients are based on historical data for previous shared container shipments to the same destination, they are not guaranteed timescales and we always advise clients of this during the quotation and booking process.
We always respond to client emails and each of your emails was replied to by our export staff. We also offered you alternative arrangements to speed up the process for you but these were declined.
There’s not a great deal to report once the vessel details etc have been sent on to clients until the consignment arrives at the destination terminal for processing through Customs.
We do our utmost to explain the process to clients but understand that waiting for progress updates can be frustrating, which is why we are in the process of putting a secure online facility in place for clients to check their shipment status independently.
We hope that you will be happy in your new home.

Furniture removal.

We would not recommend Simpsons for moves. They made errors in billing and would not recognize payment receipts from their on line payment website. They were slow to move our belongs from storage to shipping. Surprisingly good.

Having lost our slot with our original removals company we shopped around for another. Simpsons were the most attentive and sent out the owner to see us and price up the job. The cost was competitive - £580.00 plus vat - and the extra few boxes we needed were robust, cheap and promptly dropped off for us the following day - no big deposits or hidden extras, all costs were agreed upfront. We read mixed reviews so were more than a little nervous but as it turned out, our experience was great. On the day of the move a massive truck and a team of three very professional staff turned up ten minutes early and after a quick assessment, tigrelessly and carefully loaded all our gear onto the truck. There was a slight delay while we waited for the other house to finish but the lads stepped up and made up the time to ensure we didn't incur any overtime charges. We didn't incur any breakages either which was another bonus.Polite, courteous and professional service. I would recommend Simpsons.

Dont even consider it.

Worst experience ever. Had to change my removal dates and they simply would not engage. Called them eight times and could not get any help. They lied to me arguing that I had cancelled the service when I hadnt. They also lied on court today and provided a false testimony, but still won the case against me. The judge said I should have called them again (a ninth time) before going elsewhere.  The irony is that the judge said that they would have won irrespective of whether their testimony was a lie (so a couple of unnecessary lies from their side). So in the end they will receive approx 700 pounds of my money for doing nothing. But my conscience is clean. Just a couple of unnecesary lies Simpsons, nice job.

Service cost: £1200

Official company response

We are very sorry that you were so disappointed with the outcome of the Court Hearing and you felt it necessary to leave such a derogatory review, we were under the impression that the matter was closed and that the hearing parted on good terms with handshakes all round. A business transaction has responsibilities on both sides, ours as a company is to provide a service for which we have been contracted and yours as a client is to pay for services under the terms of the contract. You booked your relocation with our company Mr Escanero as evidenced in the Court hearing, you then cancelled this contract breaking the terms therein. The evidence provided to both yourself and the County Court was assessed independently by a Judge who was totally impartial to the matter and found that you had cancelled your relocation and that this fell within the cancellation terms of the contract you had entered into, judgment was made to this affect. Mr Escanero we are not in the habit of ‘lying’ to anyone and certainly not under oath in a Court of Law, our case was substantiated by written documentation between our two parties and was a clear case of you being in breach of contract.
